Here is a post on a good side project for my recent Porsche 924 purchase. There are bigger projects to come, maybe wheels, maybe suspension, stay tuned.
The Problem
As seen in the images above, the brackets were an ugly brown color and due to their through bolt design they had vibrated against the bumper and worn away the paint. This is the type of thing that really gets to me.
The Plan
The next step is disassembling the current set up. I removed both brackets to find stripped bolts, rusty hardware, and even more scratched paint… I then took all of the components over to my scales to weigh them and set a baseline for my design.

The Solution
I then got to work in CAD, pulling dimensions from the existing brackets and looking to replicate them out of PPA-CF. The initial design is seen below with a TPU backing plate that will compress and avoid scratching the paint.

After a couple quick prints, I installed heated thread inserts into each component and confirmed fitment on the car with sacrificial license plates.
I was able to achieve a design that is roughly 40% of the original weight while not risking any damage to the paint at the same time. I also think these increase the cool factor slightly.
These will be available for sale soon…
