Finished Part Installed
Over the winter of 2023 I swapped my 1989 Chevrolet Camaro to a 5.3-liter LS1. This swap presented its fair share of challenges, one of which being displaying engine diagnostics without breaking the bank. I set out to design a mount for the provided 3.5” Holley display into a previously unused part of my Cigarette lighter trim piece. My main goals were to create a OEM+ look while retaining the cigarette lighter functionality. I was able to refine my design with a couple test prints out of PLA that helped point out differences from the original part. Once I confirmed the geometry, I integrated a slotted design that holds the Holley display with two felt pieces on the back to eliminate any potential rattling and to ensure a snug fit. The final part was printed with PETG-CF on my modified Creality Ender 3 V2. PETG-CF was selected due to its strong UV resistance and higher mechanical properties compared to the PLA test print material. The trim piece has been held up for over a year with no visible UV damage.
